New Spring Collection Preview...Flight Of Paradise

This Weekend I've spent a bit of time working on a new collection called 'Flight Of Paradise' using my drawings I did last week. I have started to play with pattern idea's but feel I still want to come up with a few different repeat formations. I'm really pleased with the colour scheme  and think the design works well for a Spring Collection. What do you think?

Print & Pattern Design Feature

When I first decided a while ago that I knew I wanted to make a name for myself in the print and surface pattern industry I discovered an amazing blog full of inspirational designers and patterns. After my discovery I found myself looking forward to going on this blog everyday and although sounds cheesy, I often thought to myself that one day I'd love to have my work featured, but thought this would be a long time coming! It was also through this blog I found out about the Surface Pattern e-course which I'm currently completing at the moment with designer Rachael Taylor...So when I found out this week that I'd had my very own solo feature on Print & Pattern I was so thrilled and excited, this is a great achievement and has only added to my enthusiasm to make it as a professional designer! Below are a few shots of my feature...

New design coming soon...

I have been drawing a new design which I'm now cleaning up in Photoshop ready to turn into a new pattern design soon, my favourite part of the design process is adding colour! The lovely thing about mixing hand drawing with computer manipulation is that you can be brave and play with colours and change things that you don't feel work, experimentation is all part of the process for me. This humming bird sketch is going to be mixed with some other drawings I've been doing of oriental branches and flowers. I feel like my design style is coming through stronger now, I'm really inspired by nature and animals, the initial hand drawing is one of the most important parts of the process for my work.
Here's a sneak preview... Happy Sunday everyone!

Hello Petal!

I have been working my socks off today, coming up with a new print design, motif and pattern. I have then been experimenting putting my design onto homeware products using Illustrator/Photoshop. This has involved me pulling my hair out at times but I managed to create a few ideas, I will improve with practise!. I think I may have square eye's after today!

Bantham Beach... A Winter Walk!

A few weekends ago I went to Bantham beach, here's a few photo's from the walk, it was a gorgeous, but very chilly day! I can't stop taking photos of things that might inspire me for a new pattern design at the moment...

Surface Pattern e-course...

I'm learning so much each day on my Surface pattern e-course, below I have been playing with Colour Palette Concept Boards and looking at presentation sheets, there's lots of tweaking to be done but thought I'd share my initial ideas with you all. The course is jam packed with creative exercises and useful hints and tips, I don't know where I'd be without it now, the other students on the course are also lovely, we all support each other in our work. Its lovely meeting people who have the same dreams and ideas... Thank you Rachael and Beth for putting this amazing course together, and letting us in on your work portfolio and professional background knowledge I'm sure this won't be my last blog entry on this creative journey! I'd better get to it!
