Business Development | Make Art That Sells | Lilla Rogers School

Next month I'm excited to announce I will be taking part in Lilla Rogers e-course 'Make Art That Sells'. Lilla is always someone I look up to and follow online via her blog and current  licensed artists, so to be able to learn from her is going to be a very exciting opportunity. I'm at the stage where I'm ready to develop my business further, to become more commercial and to hopefully take over the world with my patterns and illustrations! (well that's the plan step by step) I contemplated taking this course for weeks, but after talking to family and friends I decided it was the best decision to make, as my career is the biggest passion I have and this course will develop my skills and give me an opportunity to connect with like minded creatives. So I have signed myself up for what is hopefully going to be a big step forward for my business development. Over the 5 week course (starting at the end of March) I shall blog as often as I can about my creative journey and share work and experiences with you all. I already have a vast portfolio of work and have experience in licensing, project work etc but feel this course is going to be the next step towards a successful future.

Personal | Wedding | Aqua and Pink Traditional Country Wedding Style

Hello and happy friday, I have been saying I'll do a blog post on my wedding from last September for a while now, but I have only just managed to find the time to put it together. We are lucky enough to have 1000 odd photographs from our wedding day photographed by the super talented cornish based duo Keith and Neda from Keith Riley Photography. Choosing a wedding photographer took hours and hours but once we found these guys we were so excited to see what they would produce and we were more than impressed with the results. We were drawn to Keith and Neda's relaxed, creative style of photography capturing natural informal moments between friend and family, as well as documenting all the fine details of the day. Keith and Neda were not only highly talented photographers but lovely people who we enjoyed having around as part of our special day.
Below I have selected photographs which document our day and give you a feel for the colours and idea's we had. We didn't have a 'theme' as such as apart from the colours being aqua and pink, it was a traditional church wedding in Cornwall followed by a reception at The Horn Of Plenty in Gulworthy Devon. The Horn Of Plenty is a gorgeous country house and has a reputation  for it's delicious food, we ate like kings that day!
As a designer I wanted to design everything I could, I designed and made the wedding invitations, the hand drawn lace borders took a lot of time but the final effect on the invites and wedding stationery looked great combined with subtle polka dots all in the aqua colour scheme with a hint of magenta pink (we even had stickers I designed made for the envelopes. The theme for the invites flowed through into other ideas for the day such as handmade menus, order of service sheets, table plans, name places, signs, thank you tags for presents, personalised initial 'R&A' straws for the pimms and tags. As an idea for wedding favours we bought everyone a miniature spirit with a handmade tag ties around the bottle neck saying 'cheers', although the children had handmade 'Wedding Doodles' colouring books and crayons (which I'm sure a lot of the adults would have enjoyed too!). The colour theme continued on the cake, which I designed with fresh roses and lace detailing it really had a 'WOW' factor, almost too pretty to eat! As a fun idea for the afternoon we had a giant picture frame with chalkboards and funny moustaches on sticks for guest to pose with, and played giant Jenga! we really wanted the day to be fun and not too formal. We later had a live band and set the evening party off with our first dance by The Lumineers 'Ho Hey'. I hope you enjoy the photographs below most of which are taken by Keith and Neda Riley. If your getting married and would like some stationery designed get in touch with me to discuss ideas, I'd love to hear from you...

Floral Friday | Anemones

It's been a while since I've posted a floral friday, today I'm posting some gorgeous photograph's I took of some anemones I have at home. I noticed this morning they had burst open and thought I'd capture them at their best. The colours in each flower are so pretty,  ranging from pinks to lilacs and purples. The pantone colour of the year for 2014 is 'Radiant Orchid' I can see hints of this shade in the petals. The very last photo on this post is blurred which I purposely tried to achieve with a bit of experimenting as I thought it looked like a watercolour effect, if I find the time I'd love to illustrate these with either inks or watercolours... Have a happy friday!
